Braves News
Not only was Kris Medlen sent down to AAA today to prepare to join the rotation (Yeah…what?) but Freddie Freeman’s prescription goggles are expected to arrive today.
Prescription. Goggles.
Guys…this is going to be the greatest thing since early 90’s Chris Sabo (see below):
And an honorable mention to Horace Grant…who I used to imitate at the Carroll Rec Center…come on…I just got done swimming, it was just good prop utilization!

Our 2,000th post!
Bobby says, “Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em”
What a ride this has been. You all have made the difference. You all make me want to get on here when I’m feeling like doing some virtual-tomahawk-chopping.
What better way to celebrate the 2,000th post of FYBraves than with a big win by Mike Minor in Cincy tonight and a World Championship later on this year?
Last Reminder for your chance to win free stuff!
How? Reblog this post.
Include How many K’s you think Brandon Beachy will get tonight.
If you guess correctly, you win!
So far, a lot of people think he’s doing to do some serious dealing tonight. I hope you’re all right!
What to do about Mike Minor?
I read this article in the Journal-Constitution today regarding the Braves options with lefty Mike Minor. In his last four starts he’s thrown 20.2 innings, given up 32 hits, 27 earned runs, and 10 walks.
The bright side? 23K’s in those 20 innings. So clearly the kid has pitches.
The AJC only throws out one option, Jair Jurrjens, as a possible replacement for Minor. Keep in mind that Jurrjens has been less than stellar in AAA Gwinett. In fact, in his last outing he gave up 11 earned runs in 4.2 innings pitched…ouch.
So what’s the solution?
Believe it or not, the Braves are deeper in the minors than a lot of scouts give them credit for. The name that is on the tips of a lot of people’s tongues (including mine) is Julio Teheran. Teheran, you might remember lost the last spot in the rotation this spring to Randall Delgado, but with Minor struggling—and essentially a giant hole in the 5-spot of our rotation—it’s time to see what Teheran can do.
Teheran’s stats for May thus far: 3 starts, 16 innings pitched, 2 earned runs, 14/2 K/BB. The kid is bringing it.
The Final Decision:
This one is simple in my eyes. Minor has a lot of great baseball in front of him. A quick stop to Triple-A can get his breaking ball figured out, it will give him the confidence to throw the innings he’s capable of (remember he threw 3 hitless last night) and will prepare him to work his way back up into the show when he’s needed.
Teheran on the other had has nothing to prove. The 2011 International Rookie of the Year has done all the damage he’s going to in the minors and it’s time to see what he can do on the big stage. If Fredi gives him 3 starts in the majors and he’s unimpressive we’re still sitting on Jurrjens and a fresh-minded Minor.
You have to bring up Teheran and see what he can do.
The time is now.
LET’S HAVE SOME FUN THIS THURSDAY!

I’m back!
Away from you guys for far too long! But what’s happened since I’ve been gone? Oh yeah, besides SWEEPING THE CARDS ON THE ROAD?
Tough loss last night at home against Cincy, but tonight’s the night Huddy takes the hill and makes it happen.
We broke 900 followers and a closing in on 1,000!
As promised, I’ll be live-blogging Saturday and/or Sunday’s game at Tampa. We’ll be giving away some limited edition* Braves swag to those of you who are watching along with us!
* = Not actually limited edition, mostly just random Braves stuff I have.
My Boss’ Boss’ Boss…
…which I guess makes him my great-grandboss, is a huge Cardinals fan. He may have had a tomahawk on his desk to greet him upon arrival to his office this morning.*
*Actually, you damn right he did.
You know what this is?
Devotion, that’s what.
If we can get all 905 members of FYB nation to vote their 25 times, that’s 22,625 votes for your All-Star team.
And you know what that is?
Science.
5 members away from 900!
And because I like to think all things in this world are connected, 900 = 9 innings or something like that, I want to let you all know that when we reach 900 members I’ll be bringing back ourWIN A BUNCH OF COOL BRAVES STUFFcontest for upcoming live-blogged games.
This means we’ll be setting up contests where you can win exclusive* Braves memorabilia.
Keep chopping, FYBraves nation!
* = Exclusive means Braves stuff I’ve had since the late 80’s that is pretty much in storage…but still pretty legit stuff.
